We were curious if trends in consumer values and opinions are reflected in top search terms. Sure enough, the Relative Search Volume graph shows a correlation to the main graph over the time period for which the data is available.
It’s amazing to see that in the 80’s, the cost of gas was much lower (adjusted for inflation) but the interest in efficiency was much, much higher. It’s as if people got used to the idea of consuming more.
