Maya What makes a good logo? This is a broad question whose answer depends on many factors. What is it that the business does? Who is the audience that they are trying to reach? Cultural influences? Does the client wish to appear mysterious or do they want their logo to say it all?So many influences, and they all converge to the business being summed up in one image. The best logos hope to be recognized by an observer as a visual queue to a brand or service that is unforgettable.

The Charlottesville restaurant Maya was looking to have their unique eatery represented in a logo and presented us with the challenge. “Modern, southern soul food” was just one of the ways they tried to describe the passion they put into the food and the establishment itself. Just four that letters had to convey a solid, modern, yet friendly feeling. The letter Y was a special focus, made to evoke arms held wide in a gesture welcoming all. We custom designed the letterforms to have a warm rounded feel, set low and wide for a solid appearance, and close together for a more cozy arrangement. Rounded shapes are more approachable and friendly than the sharp angles typical of modern fonts. Deep blue and red were chosen as colors to stand as a compliment to the decor of the restaurant.
